First order
I've had to step up a gear to complete my first order. Perhaps my scalpel skills are not what they once were. The thing is i've got my eye on some new screw punch heads for intricate patterns and some spiral tea cake cases. I'm going to make a flourless chocolate cake for Freya's birthday and i want it to be perfect. That = a lot of cards so i'm gonna get started. I've ordered some envelopes and plastic casings as requested.

Today's the day
Today's the day. Its tropical out so there's lots of natural light for a bind. I'm going to make a menu book for the 'people's kitchen' at passing clouds. In keeping with the natural, foraged and surplus theme i'm going to use some random paper sheets i've found. There are two sheets of different colours so i've alternated them throughout the book.
I've written some text on the cover using a screw punch and then cut down some thick blotting paper to give the book some shape.
I decided to leave a slight deckle to the pages to make the book feel really handmade. I made four holes with the screw punch and bound the book leaving around a half inch inside when i tied the thread incase it needs to be re-bound.
I've been developing my pincer grip to hold it all together while i thread.
I ran prit stick along the inside of the book, near the spine and on the cover piece. I left most of the cover not glued down so that its flexible and won't warp. Finished.

I folded all of the sheets before marking up the binding holes.
Roughly i measured out the binding thread (double the length of the spine), hands are useful.

Screw Punch
Anything with a name like 'screw punch' has gotta be good right. Right. My favourite tool, freshly imported from Japan where it may or may not have its own anime. The craftmanship's amazing and its got a real economy of movement. You get the neatest binding holes, you'll ever see.
